Georgetown Assistant Tabbed For Binghamton Post

POSTED: 2:02 pm EDT March 26, 2007

(Sports Network) - Binghamton University has named Kevin Broadus its new men's basketball coach.

Broadus has spent the last three seasons as an assistant at Georgetown, serving as a key recruiter and helping the Hoyas to this year's Final Four. He will remain with the school through the upcoming weekend.

"I look forward to coming to Binghamton," Broadus said. "I believe the program is untapped with all the support it has -- both in terms of fan base and resources. We should be gunning to win the America East Championship -- that's my goal. I've just fulfilled one goal -- to get to the Final Four -- and we'll begin to strive for that next goal -- to win the America East title. Every student-athlete should enjoy the thrill of playing in the NCAA Tournament and I think all the necessary elements are in place to do that at Binghamton."

Before his stint at Georgetown, Broadus was an assistant for three years at George Washington. He has also coached at American University, the University of the District of Columbia and his alma mater, Bowie State University.

"From the beginning, I was looking for someone with great personal integrity, great academic integrity, and someone who knows how to win," Binghamton athletic director Joel Thirer said. "We are delighted to be able to have a coach of Kevin's character; someone who has advanced his career in measured steps. He has been a winner everywhere he's been, and I'm confident that he will be a winner with Binghamton University."

Broadus, a 43-year-old native of Washington, DC, will replace Al Walker, who stepped down after seven seasons with the Bearcats.

Binghamton, which moved up to the Division I level in 2001, finished the 2006-07 season with a record of 13-16.
