GAME NOTES: The Austin Peay Governors open a six-game road trip today in Statesboro with a non-conference tilt against the Georgia Southern Eagles at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Governors are off to a 2-2 start, most recently rebounding from a tough home loss against Ohio University with a 79-63 besting of Lambuth last Tuesday. With the win, head coach Dave Loos moved into second place for the most wins in the Ohio Valley Conference. Loos now has 297 wins with APSU, behind only Cal Luther who had 319 combined wins with Murray State and Tennessee-Martin. As for Georgia Southern, it comes into this matchup with a 25-game non-conference home win streak on the line, and currently own a 2-2 ledger. The Eagles suffered a 96-79 setback at the hands of UTEP their last time out, giving the club two losses in its last three outings. APSU owns a commanding 7-1 advantage in the all-time series between these two programs.

The Governors shot a solid 48.1 percent from the floor during Tuesday's 16- point win, including a 24-of-30 effort from three-point range. APSU held Lambuth to a mere 37.9 percent from the field and forced 22 turnovers. Wes Channels scored 22 points to lead the Govs in the win, while Drake Reed tallied 17 points to go with five rebounds. Reed leads the team in scoring so far this season, tallying 18.5 ppg. Reed also leads the club on the boards as well, hauling in an impressive 7.5 rpg. Channels is next in scoring with his 17.5 ppg, and Kyle Duncan has also been solid to the tune of 10.0 ppg.

The Eagles allowed UTEP to shoot 53.3 percent from the field during the 17- point loss, and were guilty of 18 turnovers. Antonio Hanson scored 17 points and passed out four assists to lead GSU in the losing effort, while the duo of Julian Allen and Sandy Perry tallied 15 points apiece. Allen also collected nine rebounds for the Eagles, and Ben Drayton netted 11 points off the bench. Willie Powers also achieved double figures in the setback, posting 10 points to go with five assists. The Eagles are averaging 73.5 ppg this season, and currently boast three players with a double-digit scoring average. Powers leads the club with 11.8 ppg, followed by Hanson and Allen at 11.3 ppg. Allen also owns a team-high 6.8 rpg.

This should be a competitive game and a good test for both squads, as APSU and GSU both claim balanced offenses. Give the Eagles a slight edge due to the home court, but it wouldn't be a total shock if the Govs squeak out a tough road win.

Predicted Outcome

Georgia Southern 79, Austin Peay 77
