Evansville, IN -- (Sports Network) - Shy Ely recorded a double-double consisting of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Evansville Purple Aces to a 70-62 win over the Austin Peay Governors in non-conference action at Roberts Stadium. Shy, who also added three assists and a couple of steals to his stat line for the Purple Aces (1-0), shot 8-of-18 from the field on the night for the home team. Also scoring in double figures was Jason Holsinger who dropped in 14 points, although he converted just 4-of-15 from the floor and 2-of-10 behind the three-point line. The Governors (0-1) had four starters score in double figures, beginning with Caleb Brown who accounted for 20 points on 4-of-5 beyond the arc, while Drake Reed chipped in 13 points before fouling out. Kyle Duncan and Ernest Fields tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the season-opening setback. Austin Peay erupted for 60.9 percent shooting from the field in the first half, including 5-of-7 behind the three-point line, to claim a 37-34 advantage at the break. In the second half the Govs converted just 29.2 percent from the floor and was 8-of-14 at the free-throw line as they dropped the eight-point road decision. In addition to holding a 38-25 advantage on the glass, Evansville also forced 18 turnovers to secure the win.
