Pittsburgh, PA -- (Sports Network) - Sam Young scored 26 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead sixth-ranked Pittsburgh to an 86-67 win over Akron in the Legends Classic at the Petersen Events Center.

Levance Fields finished with 19 points and seven assists for the Panthers (3-0), who have scored at least 80 points in each of their three games this season.

DeJuan Blair had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five steals for Pitt, which will play Indiana University-PA on Saturday.

Brett McKnight totaled 23 points for the Zips (2-1), who had beaten Canisius and Winthrop to begin the season. Nate Linhart added 11 points for Akron in the loss.

Pitt built up a small lead early, but didn't get ahead by double-digits until Brad Wanamaker canned a three with 8:16 left in the first half for a 27-17 lead. The Panthers continued to pull away, and got a fastbreak layup from freshman Nasir Robinson and fastbreak dunk from Young with about five minutes left to establish a 36-19 advantage.

Pitt took a 45-27 halftime lead, and went up by 20 on the first bucket of the second half -- a layup from Blair.

It came about 1 1/2 minutes into the new stanza, but holding the comfortable lead, Pitt held Akron at bay the remainder of the contest.
