NCAA Game Summary - Toledo Vs. Kent State

(Sports Network) - Mike Scott tied a career-high with 23 points, leading the top-seeded Kent State Golden Flashes to a 77-57 win over the eighth-seeded Toledo Rockets in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.

Rashad Woods chipped in with 11 points for Kent State (26-6), while Al Fisher and Chris Singletary each scored 10.

Jerrah Young paced Toledo (11-19) with 17 points and four steals. Tyrone Kent added 14 points, and Ridley Johnson and Anthony Byrd each scored 10.

Scott scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half, while the Rockets committed 13 team fouls in the frame, placing several key players in early foul trouble. The Flashes closed out an otherwise sloppy half with a 9-0 run, taking a 39-29 lead into the break.

Toledo was kept at bay in the second stanza, shooting just 9-of-24 from the floor.

The Flashes shot a healthy 56.6 percent for the game. Kent State will face fifth-seeded Miami-Ohio in the semifinals Friday at 9:30 p.m.

Samardo Samuels scored 18 points with five rebounds and Earl Clark added 13 points as the third-ranked Louisville Cardinals began their season by running past Morehead State, 79-41, in the opening game of the Billy Minardi Classic at Memorial Hall. The Cardinals will take on South Alabama Sunday afternoon. Also hitting double figures in scoring for Louisville (1-0) was Jerry Smith with 12 and Preston Knowles with 10. Terrence Williams grabbed 11 rebounds and Edgar Sosa dished off 10 assists. Leon Buchanan led Morehead State (0-4) with 10 points. Morehead State, which had 17 turnovers, plays in the consolation game Sunday.
