Santos Scores A Knockout, Takes Home WBA Light Middleweight Title

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Danny Santos recorded a sixth-round knockout of Joachim Alcine to take the WBA light middleweight title at Uniprix Stadium on Friday.

The 32-year-old Santos (32-3-1), a native of Puerto Rico, stunned the home crowd after Alcine (30-1), a Montreal native, was unable to pick himself off the canvas 2:10 into the sixth round.

This is Santos' third title having held the WBO welterweight title from 1999-2001 and the WBO light middleweight title from 2002-2005.

Alcine successfully defended his title in December against Alfonso Mosquera after originally taking the belt from Travis Simms in July 2007.
