AKRON, Ohio -- Akron firefighters responded to a report of smoke at the Lockheed Martin Airdock Monday. A spokeswoman from Lockheed said that a welding spark started the insulation in the building smoldering, and it created a lot of smoke. The airship factory, called the Airdock, is 1,175 feet long, 325 feet wide and 211 feet high. Officials said there was no damage to the inside of the building. Lockheed Martin Corp. is in the process of building a high-altitude airship for missile defense. The airdock is located on Massillon Road. The Akron landmark has been there for about 76 years.
