Police: Man Walks Into Animal Hospital, Says He Has Bomb

A local man was charged with four counts of aggravated robbery, abduction and disrupting public service after walking into an Alliance animal hospital, saying he had a bomb, according to police.

Police said Charles Hammond, 39, held up a gym bag and said it was a bomb when he walked into the Westside Animal Hospital at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday. There were no customers inside the building at the time, only the veterinarian and three employees.

The veterinarian was performing surgery on a dog at the time. One employee ended of fled to a nearby business.

Hammond is being held in the Stark County Jail. His bond was set at $276,000. He will be arraigned Friday.
