Warrant Issued For $10 Tax Bill

Tax season may be over but one local couple is still having tax trouble due to a $10 bill.

Kim and Dan Clark have a bill for $10.12 and believe that city and county officials went overboard.

The Clarks said a few months ago they got a letter from the city of Barberton saying she underpaid her income tax bill by $10.

With other bills piling up, Kim admitted that she let it slide. Before long, she had a warrant out for her arrest.

On Thursday, an officer showed up at their door.

"I didn't believe it. A Summit County sheriff pulled in the driveway, the doorbell rang and I answered it," said Dan Clark. "And he goes, 'You know why I'm here?' "

"Well, I have an arrest warrant for you and your wife."

The Clarks paid the tax bill but now have $400 in court fees.

NewsChannel5 talked to the mayor of Barberton on the phone Thursday night. He said whether a resident owes $10 or $10,000, the law is the law.
