Man, 82, Continues Working As Ad Salesman

Baby Boomers Reach Retirement In 2010

POSTED: 9:31 a.m. EDT May 5, 2003

Baby boomers will begin to reach retirement age in 2010, but turning 65 never stopped has never stopped a local senior citizen, according to NewsChannel5.

Ray Mendelsoh, 82, was an ad salesman for 20 years at WEWS when he retired in 1987.

He was only retired for a day. After running errands with his wife, he decided to return to work.

"We left the house at 9 a.m., I was home at 20 after 9 and I said if this is retirement -- forget it," he said.

He decided to get a new job doing his old trade, selling ads, but this time for radio stations. He's been doing it for 13 years.

"Listen, at 82, I don't know how much time I have so far I have enjoyed good health over the years and I look forward to going to the office everyday," he said.

Mendelsoh said a key to successful aging is to love what you do. He always did and still does.

This is also true for senior citizens who work over at Bonnie Bell. They work because they want to. "I live it every day," Mendelsoh said. "Don't get me wrong, I like to sleep."
