CLEVELAND - WEWS NewsChannel5 has received two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for the newsroom's work on an in-depth investigation and its website.
The winners were announced by the Radio Television Digital News Association Thursday afternoon.
The first Murrow was given for Chief Investigator Ron Regan's coverage of "Operation Deep Freeze," an investigation that looked into increased cancer rates among veterans at the McMurdo Naval station in Antarctica. This series of reports was also recognized with a Peabody award earlier this month.
The second Murrow award given to Newschannel5 was for the station's work on this website, newsnet5.com.
RTDNA gives out the awards to recipients who demonstrate the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession.
These winning entries will now go up against other regional winners from across the country.
