Rob Powers is returning to Cleveland and joining NewsChannel 5's team of anchors and reporters.

Rob knows and loves our sports teams as well as the communities we serve.”
Powers will join NewsChannel 5 anchor Danita Harris, Power of 5 Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson, and Sports Director Andy Baskin every weeknight on NewsChannel 5 at 6 and 11.
“The dream comes true starting with this announcement,” Powers said.
Raised in Parma Heights, Powers is a graduate of Holy Name High School and Eastern Michigan University. He rejoins NewsChannel 5 where he started his career as an intern in the sports department back in the late 80s. His career path took him to Binghamton, New York followed by stops in Indianapolis and Toledo with sports and anchor roles.
Since 2009, Powers has been the lead sports anchor and fill-in anchor at WABC.
“I absolutely love the Cavs, Indians, and Browns, but I’d say football is my favorite sport overall,” Powers said enthusiastically. “From Super Bowls to the World Series to the Stanley Cup Finals, I’ve covered literally every major league sporting event and can’t wait to root for and report on our home teams.”
Powers brings his wife Debbie and sons Jackson and Brendan to Cleveland with him.
Powers said he is looking forward to watching his sons play baseball in northeast Ohio and holiday dinners with family.
Powers said, "I’m the youngest of seven and my parents live in Westlake, so there’s lots to celebrate in both my professional life and personal life.”
Viewers can expect to see Powers on air in early August.
"I wouldn’t leave New York for anything but home, and that’s Cleveland and NewsChannel 5, where it all began for me.”
