Is Your Makeup Helping Or Hurting?
Get Tips To Keep Your Face Beautiful
CLEVELAND -- You probably have a regular routine when putting on makeup, but how do you know you are doing it right?
Many people put on makeup entirely the wrong way.
NewsChannel5's Barbara Meek reports on some common makeup mistakes.
Having so much makeup to choose from doesn't mean that you have to wear so much.
Meek starts with concealer. You can't conceal a concealer that's way too light. It will actually make you look puffy.
"That's another thing we do, usually we go right under the eye. You don't want to do that," makeup artist Tamiko said.
You do want to blend across the eye socket -- the technique of Tamiko, a professional makeup artist.
"You can even instead of using a product that says it's a concealer, use a foundation that's a shade or two lighter," Tamiko said.
Another makeup mistake: eye pencil or eye shadow that's too dark or harsh.
"The foundation is too dark and we're stopping it right at the line," Tamiko said. People just do their face and they stop," Meek replied.
You should match the foundation to your skin tone.
And don't apply it in a circular motion. That causes streaks. It's better to blend down. That way the foundation lays on top of your skin cells, not underneath.
A lot of women make a blunder with blush.
Don't rub it on in circles. That's a big mistake unless it's Halloween, Meek said.
Don't use dark lipliner with a light or red lipstick in between. Dark lipliners need dark lipstick or clear gloss.
"Make sure everything blends because if it blends, it'll look a lot more natural for you," Tamika said.
The best advice -- when your makeup gets old, throw it away.
The general rule is 3 months for mascara and 6 months for lipstick and liquid foundation.
