Fight promoter Don King has erected a replica of the Statue of Liberty along the waterfront of his Manalapan home.
The 26-foot model of Lady Liberty stands, King says, as a symbol of what America is all about. According to NewsNet5's West Palm Beach, Fla., affiliate, King said that he put up the statue outside his $32 million mansion to raise awareness of the plight of immigrants who try to make it to America's shores.
King, a Cleveland native, said that the statue also serves as a reminder to all Americans about the root of the United States. King says that he has heard no complaints about the statue.
While he admits he has tried to keep a low profile in Manalapan, his businesses interests are sure to catch the spotlight. King plans to buy the old Mangonia Park Jai Alai fronton and turn it into an all-sports event arena.
King is also promoting a fight in Fort Lauderdale this weekend.
