Having Back Pain? It May Be Your Shoes

Footwear May Be Causing Pain In Other Parts Of Body

Are your shoes a real pain in the neck?

NewsChannel5 reports that your footwear may be causing you to have pain in other areas of your body.

A Temple University survey finds that more than 75 percent of adults experience some form of foot pain. The same number reported having back, knee or hip pain associated with the foot pain.

More than 50 percent of those surveyed think the pain is normal. But the leading cause of their discomfort is shoes that don't fit properly.

"We're spending a whole lot more energy walking in pain than we are walking in comfort," podiatrist John Walter said. "One pair of feet must last a lifetime, and it's important to be comfortable in that time frame."

Experts say that there are two easy ways to fit your feet: Go shoe shopping at the end of the day, when your foot has expanded, and make sure that your shoes are a half- to a quarter-inch longer than your big toe.
