Patch Could Be New Birth Control For Women

Company Plans To Ask For Government Approval Next Year

familyCLEVELAND, Posted 3:29 p.m. July 20, 1999 -- A new form of birth control for women could come in the form of a patch.

NewsChannel5 reports Johnson & Johnson is in the final stages of testing a contraceptive patch. It's called the Evra Contraceptive Patch and would last a week. Women would wear it on their arm, abdomen or buttocks.

Early tests show the patch works as well as birth control pills. The company plans to ask for government approval early next year.
