Mud Treatment

CLEVELAND, Posted 11:08 a.m. April 8, 1999 -- Some women are getting all muddied up to get rid of those unwanted dimples on their legs.

But this mud isn't getting in their hair or face.

Tamara Bennett, a guest who appeared on Today's Morning Exchange, shared information about a technique used to fight cellulite.

It's called the Moor Mud Body Mask.

And you don't have to go to the spa to have this done. Do it in the comfort of your home.

First, a shi shi Brush is used to stimulate the skin before the mud is applied, Bennett says. The Moor mud was discovered in Austria and has about 1,000 herbs and stimulants.

Bennett says the mud was discovered "after the ice age (when) everything melted down into a valley and this moor settled there."

But this mud is a heavyweight champ because it's believed to fight other things, too.

"This works on scar tissue and helps improve the integrity of the skin for cellulite," she says. "Cellulite just can't be gotten rid of. You have to exercise, you need to diet."

For beginners, she suggests a treatment for once a week for the first month and then once a month to help get rid of cellulite.

"Massage also helps break it (cellulite) up too," she says.

Europeans have found more uses for this Austrian mud.

"They have been using this for years and years," says Bennett. "They do the body treatments, take baths in it. Just jump in it and drink it."

Yes, she said drink it.

Bennett says drinking the mud can help reduce the chances of getting stomach ulcers.

The mud supplement is odorless.

On the show, Bennett mixed the mud with apple juice for Swoboda to taste.

"You just taste the apple juice," Swoboda said.

In addition to helping stomach ailments, Bennett says it's good for other things, too.

"It's wonderful for fibermiolgia, muscle pain, it's like nature's Cortizone," she says. "It has a natural anti-inflammatory in it."
