6-Year-Old Mauled By Pit Bull
Dog's Owner May Be Charged
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio, Posted 6:50 a.m. November 17, 1998 -- A 6-year-old boy has severe facial injuries and a four-inch gash on his right cheek after being attacked by a Pit Bull.NewsChannel5 reports Jaqueline Williams of Nelaview Road was babysitting some children and keeping a dog for a friend at the time Marcell Scott (pictured) was viciously attacked Sunday.
Williams says Scott was visiting with the children at her residence in the backyard. She says she told Scott and the other children to stay away from the dog and went back into her home.
Soon, she heard screaming and ran outside and saw the dog biting Marcell. She couldn't get the dog off the young boy so she dialed 911 and ran to get a neighbor to help. The neighbor, who has not been identified, hit the dog with a thick stick and pulled the child to safety.
Scott was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
Meanwhile, police say the dog's owner, Jamel Burton, may face 90 days in jail and a $750 fine, if he is convicted of violating the vicious dog law.
It's not know if Williams will be charged. Police are still investigating.
