Children Get Attacked By Pit Bull
Family Had To Force Dog Out Of House With Trash Can
A neighbor, who witnessed the whole thing, said the dog knocked one child down and started mauling him, then when the other boy tried to help, the dog turned and attacked him.
Apparently, the children tried to get away from the dog by running up the stairs to their house, but the dog came running right behind them.
NewsChannel5 reports, once the dog got into the house, the family forced the dog out with a trash can. Youngstown police found the dog on the back porch.
The dog is now at the county dog pound and the owner must prove the animal has been vaccinated.
The owner, Willie Hinton, now faces charges of not registering the dog and failure to keep the animal secured.
In 1987 the state legislature created a vicious dog law which by definition named pit bulls to be a vicious dog, because of the high incidents of pit bull attacks and deaths.
By law, pit bulls have to be in a locked fenced yard or a locked pen with a top. Just having a pit bull on a chain violates the 1987 vicious dog law.
If you encounter a pit bull or any stray dog that acts like it is going to attack:
- Don't Run
- Don't Scream
- Don't Stare Into The Dog's Eyes
If the dog does attack, the best thing to do is drop to the ground, cover your face, head and lie still.
Pit bulls make up only one percent of the dog population in the U.S. Almost 75 percent of deaths from dog attacks are from pit bulls.
