You Shouldn't Use Old Toiletries, Cosmetics

Changes In Color, Smell Are Good Indicators

POSTED: 6:22 p.m. EST December 19, 2000

In Tuesday's Simplicity Tips, NewsChannel5's Barbara Meek found out that we shouldn't keep using old toiletries or makeup.

toiletries If there isn't an expiration date on the product, here are some ways to tell when it may be ready for the trash.

Looking at your toothbrush can tell a lot. When it starts to look flat or frayed, it's time for a new one. If you don't replace an old toothbrush, you could be letting tartar and plaque build up in hard to reach places.

If your body or face cream changes color or smell, throw it away. Not only will the cream be less effective, it could also be contaminated.

Finally, if your mascara starts to smell or gets dried and clumpy, it is important that you throw it away. You could be risking an eye infection if you don't. Experts recommend getting a new one every month to avoid the potential problem.
