MEDINA, Ohio -- Medina police reported that a 9-month-old boy left in a car died Monday morning.
NewsChannel5 reported that Tyler Costello was found outside a business called The Mail Box.
A call to the Medina Police Department at 10:56 a.m. indicated that there was a baby in a car outside the business. Police and paramedics responded to the scene and found Tyler had been left alone.
The baby's father made a desperate 911 call.
"911 what's your emergency?" The dispatcher asked.
"I have a small infant. He was locked in the car. I forgot about him for two hours. His lips are purple," the father said.
"I'm getting him out of the car. I need help, I need help."
Police said the father needed help reviving his 9-month-old son he left alone in a scorching car while he worked his shift.
"God, he's not breathing." the father said.
"OK, alright, try to stay calm. We've got officers," the dispatcher said.
"Oh my God, this is all my fault. Oh my God," the father said.
Officers said it was a co-worker who noticed the child unconscious in the vehicle.
The baby's body temperature was 108 degrees, according to officials.
Tyler was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Medina Police Chief Dennis Hanwell said it is the kind of tragedy that devastates families and officers.
Police said the baby's father works at The Mail Box and that he was driving the car Monday morning, aware that his son was inside.
Officers took a statement from the baby's father and then allowed him to go home.
Detectives said the child was in the car for three hours before anyone realized what was happening.
No charges have yet been filed against anyone, NewsChannel5 reported. The case will now be turned over to prosecutors.
