OBERLIN, Ohio -- On Sept. 11, one of the hijacked planes that went down crashed into a Pennsylvania field. Today, the victims and heroes of United Airlines Flight 93 were honored.
Federal Aviation Administration employees in Oberlin held a celebration and dedication ceremony.
NewsChannel5's Adam Shapiro reported that more than 800 people working at Cleveland's Air Traffic Control Center were thanked for their heroic efforts in helping with Flight 93 and for helping to land 4,500 aircrafts on Sept. 11.
Flight 93 flew over Cleveland before turning toward Washington, D.C.
A monument was unveiled at the ceremony for the passengers of Flight 93. That was the flight Todd Beamer was on when he said, "Let's roll." As the passengers were taking the plane back from the terrorists, it crashed in Pennsylvania.
At the ceremony, Beamer's best friend, Doug MacMillan, accepted $10,000 in donations for the Todd Beamer Fund. He said Todd would be humbled by the dedication.
Shapiro said the monument is to be a place where people who work at the control center can come and reflect on Sept. 11.
