Before You Dial, Check Your Long Distance Rates

Compare Phone Costs Online

UPDATED: 1:58 p.m. EST December 28, 2001

Get ready to pay more for reaching out and touching someone on long distance calls.

MCI and AT&T are quietly raising rates, NewsChannel5 reported.

MCI is planning 14 price increases -- some of them on popular plans like MCI 5 cents every day.

MCI is also adding a $5 monthly fee to one plan, and increased monthly fees on others.

AT&T customers will pay a fee equal to 11.5 percent of long distance charges.

That will be buried in the fine print of your bill, labeled "universal connectivity charge."
